More times than not we are far better acquainted with what we don’t want than what we do want. Call it a paradox, part of the human experience, or human nature. By and large, we know best what we don’t want.
As a result, we spend more time and energy avoiding what we don’t want than creating what we do want. What we give energy to grows. In the words of Henry Ford, “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t— you’re right.”
What to do? Begin with what you know best. Make a list of what you don’t want. For every item listed, ask yourself one question, “What’s the opposite?” Write it down and before you know it, you’ll have a list of what you want and diverted your attention in a more positive direction.
